چکیده

Abstract. Stratospheric HCl observations are an important diagnostic for the evaluation of catalytic processes that impact ozone layer. We report here in situ balloon-borne employing off-axis integrated cavity output spectrometer (OA-ICOS) fitted with a reinjection mirror. Laboratory assessments demonstrated has 90 % response time 10 s to changes and 30 precision 26 pptv. The instrument was deployed alongside August 2018 on descent between 20–80 hPa (29–18 km altitude). agreed nearby satellite measurements made by Earth Observing System Microwave Limb Sounder within average. This is first stratospheric have been ICOS any cavity-enhanced tested flight.

Sensitivity enhancement in off-axis integrated cavity output spectroscopy.

We report on a detailed model of an improved three mirror off-axis integrated cavity output spectroscopy (OA-ICOS) setup, which re-injects the light reflected by the optical cavity. The model simulates the impact of design parameters on instrument sensitivity and can be used for any off-axis configuration. We demonstrate the application of this model for the real-time detection of ethylene with...

Position measurement of a cavity mirror using polarization spectroscopy

A high-reflectivity coated mechanical silicon oscillator with high quality value of the mechanical resonance was employed as a planar rear mirror in a Fabry–Perot interferometer. Active stabilization of the interferometer improves the stability of the resonance and makes it possible to perform sensitive interferometric measurements. The frequency locking of lasers to optical cavities requires t...

Detection of formaldehyde using off - axis integrated cavity output spectroscopy with an interband cascade laser

A continuous-wave, mid-infrared, distributed feedback , interband cascade laser was used to detect and quantify formaldehyde (H 2 CO) using off-axis, integrated cavity output spectroscopy in gas mixtures containing ≈ 1–25 parts in 10 6 by volume (ppmV) of H 2 CO. Analysis of the spectral measurements indicates that a H 2 CO concentration of 150 parts in 10 9 by volume (ppbV) would produce a spe...

Infrared cavity ringdown and integrated cavity output spectroscopy for trace species monitoring

Although the ability of high finesse optical cavities to provide effective absorption path-lengths exceeding 10 km. has been known for quite some time, attempts to utilize this property for the purposes of high-resolution spectroscopy have often resulted in extremely complex experimental systems. Here, we demonstrate how off-axis optical paths through such cavities can be employed to produce re...

Design considerations in high-sensitivity off- axis integrated cavity output spectroscopy

Off-axis integrated cavity output spectroscopy (OA-ICOS) has generated much interest because it potentially allows highly sensitive field measurements with robust optical alignment. We discuss here design choices involved in design of an OA-ICOS instrument and how these choices impact instrument sensitivity, using as our example the design of the Harvard ICOS isotope instrument, which demonstra...
